Cable access is part of a larger global movement of people who
are using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for social
change and empowerment. This track looks at community media from
an international and global perspective, examining models, technologies,
ideologies and practices of the community media movement world wide.

Session 1: Thursday 2:30 - 5pm
Cross Cultural Communication and Community Media:
A facilitated conversation of critical inquiry into the embedded
assumptions and inherent social responsibility in community media.
The practices and tools of Community Media are being deployed world-wide.
This session explores the kind of communication behaviors and skills
needed to build a cross-cultural communication commons where diverse
thinkers, cultures and ideas can meet and discuss issues of importance.

Emerging Community and Activist Applications of Information
Media and Technology: A Critical discussion. Who is successfully
applying voice, video and data toward social justice and insuring

pertaining to community media globally, including the United Nations
World Summit on Information Society. Join us for an overview and
discussion of ways the Alliance can be more active and involved
in shaping global policy for the movement.

Access and the Global Community Media Landscape:
White Paper Session focusing on global issues surrounding community-based,
alternative media (e.g., theWorld Summit on the Information Society
and the role of civil society in national and global movements toward
the democratization of communication), or comparing the tenets and
traditions of US community media with alternative media in other
parts of the world.
