Big Sandy: Stories is an unsentimental look at growing up in a region neglected and depleted. A young girl, soon to be a woman, grows up on the Ohio and Big Sandy Rivers in Appalachia after the coal and steel plants, communities and families have been abandoned. Her stories follow the life and development of Amy Pritchett. Gritty, sexy and darkly humorous, Walker offers a bird’s-eye view of working class life in Appalachia.
