Currently in production, this is a documentary film that explores the enigmatic icon of the black virgin and how it represents a spiritual matrix that threatened the early formation of the early Church, and though suppressed, has shaped Western culture and consciousness.
Jean Donohue’s The Secret of the Black Virgin is a documentary journey through the places and history of an enigmatic icon called the Black Virgin. The film explores the mysteries of the icon, its roots in Egypt, why thousands of Romanii people gather every year to honor “Black Sara” Why was France key in the early appearance of the black virgin?
The film also explores what the icons have to with the ancient gnostics, the Egyptian Mystery School, Knights Templar, Cathars, and Rosicrucians?
Within great historical moments of Europe her presence has been a constant undercurrent. The [Terrible] Secret of the Black Madonna is a ‘road movie,’ a sacred quest for answers to the seminal questions of the 21st C.
The film features the most erudite scholars and authors on the subject of the black virgin including ~
