Support The Savannah Artist Retreat
Appeal from CD Collins
I’m asking for your support. Located in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky, at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, The Savannah Artist Retreat has been offering tranquility and inspiration to fellow artists for more than twenty years. The main house is a genuine Victorian, East Lake style, 1890’s farmhouse which is nestled on 60 acres of farm and grasslands. This retreat has served as a private, quiet, safe place for artists to reflect, work, rest, and reconnect with the natural world.
Now, it is in desperate need of repairs and upgrades. I, along with my devoted and talented craftsman friend, Ray Oney, have been repairing and restoring the property for the past 25 years. And now we need some help.
What needs to be done? I have gotten comparison estimates for all of these repairs.
Projects:
- Roof repair and painting
- Chimney repairs restoring chimneys to workable and aesthetic condition
- Electrical system upgrade
- Native grasses and flowers planting
- Outbuilding restoration
- Renovation of full attic into an artists’ studio

Artist Testimonials
“This place is special, and the house itself and surrounding farm area are charming. Just sitting on the dock and watching the sunset renews your faith in the world. Couldn’t recommend it more.”
Jeff Michael Ruby
Author who wrote “Penelope March is Melting” while at the retreat
“My stay at the Savannah was truly the experience I hoped it would be. I was looking for peace and quiet, a taste of Kentucky countryside, and a relaxing atmosphere that felt like home. The house was clean and comfortable and I had everything I needed for my stay. The rolling hills and fields that surround the farmhouse give you privacy and a quiet escape from the everyday noise and fast pace of city life (I’m from downtown Louisville, KY). If you are looking for a genuine taste of Kentucky countryside, this lovingly cared-for home in the foothills of the Appalachians is the place to stay!”
Sarah, Louisville, KY
“I was very glad to return to the Savannah Retreat for another writing getaway. The gold bedroom is quite comfortable, and the newly added private bathroom was great to have. I highly recommend the Savannah Retreat to those looking for peace, comfort, and serenity. I hope to return again in the future!”
Jordan, Lexington, KY
“A beautiful country drive (through a one lane stone tunnel!) to Kentucky’s Natural Bridge. CD’s house is so beautiful and historic it almost seems enchanted. On a 56 acre working farm just outside charming Mt Sterling, friendly people and comfortable rooms.”
